Reedham Ferry

The Reedham Ferry in Norfolk is a chain ferry which can carry up to three cars.  It takes passengers across the River Yare between Norwich and Great Yarmouth, which saves a 30 mile journey.
The current ferry in operation is twenty six years old and is fitted with twin Nannidiesel engines and numerous rams for the two docking ramps.  Originally the ferry was fitted with twin 5.280 (5 cylinder, 62hp) engines which replaced the original engines back in 2000.  However they are currently in the process of updating the models and have so far replaced one engine with a N4.50 (4 cylinders, 50hp).
The Nannidiesel engines were chosen for their reliability, fuel economy and quiet operation.  In fact, prior to installing Nannidiesel engines, the local residents used to report being able to hear the ferry in operation around the village but are no longer able to do so.

The key factor in achieving reliability over this amount of hours is regular servicing which is carried out by AR Peachment after every 200 hours.
